All PFLAG groups are different. I’ve heard horror stories about a few in the suburbs of Chicago—bisexual people joining only to be told to leave and not come back until they had “picked a side.” I wish that PFLAG as a whole would do comprehensive bisexuality education throughout their organization so that each group could be brought up on the latest research and information. I appreciate what you’ve done with this group but it doesn’t seem like PFLAG has any consistent organizational intention of actually serving bi people

YES thank you.  My parents went to a PFLAG meeting on Long Island and were told that I would eventually decide I was a lesbian (I’m still bi).  (via bifurious)

Oh dear. Well THAT might explain whey they have refused to do any joint events with or even answer emails, phone-calls and other friendly overtures from the Queens PFLAG which is the official sponsor of the annual Brenda Howard Award (last years winner was Robyn Ochs).

FIY If they wished you parents would be welcome and would be treated appropriately at the monthly PFLAG Meetings in Queens at Reform Temple of Forest Hills. And they can join them online Yahoo Group, Facebook & Twitter. Also making sure you know there things for bisexual people on LI check with New York Area Bisexual Network on Facebook & Twitter and also withe the NYC area Bisexual/Pansexual & Queer MeetUp.

…she says one of the things that bothers her is “not knowing who you’re going to bring home/end up with”

To which I have responded, “Mom, but you’ve never and will never have any idea about who I will bring home/end up with. You have no idea if I will fall for a red head or a brunette or a blond, someone tall or short, fat or slender, what ethnicity, what religion… so why is knowing my gender preference (if any) so important to you?”

This stumps her.

Why I Love My Mother

  • Politician at door:

(blah blah blah)...and my strong commitment to traditional family values, as my wife of 28 years will attest.

  • Shade's mom:

Sir, I don't care if you have orgies every Tuesday night so long as you get your job done.

  • Politician:

    ...

  • Shade's mom:

Also, if "traditional family values" is a sneaky way of saying "anti-gay marriage stance," you should know that my daughter is bisexual, and if I never get to cry at her wedding because some law you passed made her wedding illegal, I will personally see that your wife of 28 years has a lesbian awakening in time for you to discover the virtues of traditional divorce.

  • Politician:

...you have yourself a nice day, m'am.
