I sometimes feel that these alternative labels function like code words in queer women’s communities, as if to say, “I am sexual with everyone *except* cisgender men.” While people are certainly free to choose not to partner with cisgender men, I am disturbed by the binary that seems to be developing here, one in which panssexual/polysexual/etc.-identified women are supposedly subversive and queer because they refuse to sleep with cisgender men, whereas bisexual-identified women are supposedly conservative and straight-minded because they do sometimes partner with cisgender men. And it seems to me that the bisexual-reinforces-the-binary trope exacerbates this binary, which is probably why this accusation has become so prevalent in queer women’s communities.

All Five Bisexual US State and National Office-Seekers Win In 2012 Elections

Election night 2012 was a happy occasion for the Bisexual Community in the United States as all five openly bisexual candidates on the national and state ballots swept to victory.

Leading the charge was Arizona Congresswoman-elect Kyrsten Sinema When she takes her seat in January 2013 she will become the first openly bisexual member of the US Congress. Also re-elected were all four out Bisexual state officials including: State Senator Angie Buhl (D-SD); Secretary of State Kate Brown (D-OR); State Assemblyman Micah Z. Kellner (D-NY); and State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-WI).

“It is important that there are so many openly bisexual persons in positions of leadership on this level,” said American Institute of Bisexuality’s Denise Penn. “By being open, these elected officials provide positive role models for our youth and help educate the general public.” (via Bi Magazine)

Bisexual Culture (or WE ACTUALLY EXIST DAMMIT!)

Ignoring the re-current bisexual chic trend, I want to look into bisexual culture. Do bisexuals even have their own culture?

Yes! bisexual community and bisexual culture do exist. However, for reason that are unclear it seems to get overlooked, minimized or even erased (even when you would think there would be no need to do so). *looks puzzled* Someone really needs to do some solid research on why this happens.

So here is a beginning list of some (primarily english language, there is lots of stuff all around the world) things to know about. And I apologize in advance for all left out, particularly to the huge active worldwide Spanish Language Communities as well as to Canada, AU & NZ … . just ran out of time … so please add to this …

and yes left out all the many musicians and artists … so sorry …
