Minister puts spotlight on bisexuality in light of more than 10% of Dutch self-identifying as bisexual
[Nederland (Holland)]: 2 May 2012 - Examination of the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP) and the [ed note Dutch] National Bisexual Network (LNBi) shows that the population of bisexuals in size is perhaps the greatest sexual minority, but also is the most invisible. More than 10 percent of Dutch people identifies themselves as bisexual, but only a few dare to come out openly.
This bit of breaking news may bit a bit hard for english-speakers to get thru, but basically the Dutch government in conjunction with Dutch LGBTQ+ right’s campaigners has undertaken a number of studies in 2010 and 2011 culminating in various reports. Some of the finding include:
Homosexuality is widely accepted: In 2010 and 2011, two surveys conducted among more than 5,000 gay and bisexual men and women. This shows that most gay and bisexual indeed feel accepted. Over 90% is open to family and friends about his or her sexual preference. The vast majority report that their parents accept their sexual orientation.
Acceptance has a limit Bisexual men/(people) are less open about their sexual orientation. The half has not told anyone.
Additionally these studies calculated the percentages of LGBTQ+ people in the population and once again as has been repeatedly show in studies in various countries, the count on the “B” in LGBT has been wildly underestimated, primarily by the gay/lesbian establishment and their cohorts.
